UCLA Bruins West Hollywood Sport reviews
Odd experience for regular-season college football
Not much of a college football experience; more like a vintage Clippers game at the Sports Arena. The UCLA version of playing in the Rose Bowl features piping in a too-loud soundtrack of tunes belonging in cheapo clubs on Valley Boulevard, a barrage of commercials on the new video boards, replays that take too long to cue with amateurish production values ... and the patrons are left with a"WHAT did we buy tickets for again?" regret. The game is fine, but the already detached Bruin football nation has to be instructed when to cheer and when to get excited. And no marching band?! S'ok -- as long as you had a kid playing in the Pop Warner "game" at halftime that was a placebo for halftime entertainment. Wait; I almost forgot the fantastic fireworks show following game. THAT'S why we first-time customers were willing to ante $100 and up for! SC games are far more corporate but truer to the spirit.
lions and tigers
I've always wanted to go to a game in the Rose Bowl. Finally got to go, and it was just a coincidence that the hometown Tigers were playing the weekend I was there. It's a great old stadium, nice grounds, surprisingly good sightlines. Lots of people. Shuttle bus was organized well. I liked the long "tunnel" to get back on the bus. It meant you walked a long way but didn't have to wait long once you got there.
As for the game, Memphis didn't embarass themselves at all against a highly ranked opponent. They played very well and actually led for much of the game. Only complaint I have is the growing trend of piped in pop "music." Let the bands play! And it was weird how late arriving many of the fans were. Never seen such mobs coming into a stadium in the 2nd quarter. Maybe it's a California thing.
